Template Files

Manage the document templates Lunr creates new documents from, upload the AutoCAD stylesheets and fonts used to generate renditions, and choose which repositories each template applies to.

Overview

Document templates are the starting files new documents are created from, such as an empty AutoCAD drawing or Word document, configured by administrators.

For the spreadsheet templates that drive bulk import and export of document metadata, see Import & Export. That is a separate feature reached from its own item in the admin navigation, distinct from the document templates covered on this page.

Document Templates

Templates are default versions of documents that have not been populated with any information yet. They can be used for generating new document numbers and sending pre-populated title blocks to vendors.

Templates can be saved for the following documents.

  • AutoCAD
  • MicroStation
  • Microsoft Excel
  • Microsoft PowerPoint
  • Microsoft Word
  • Generic image files

Adding a New Template

To add a new template,

  1. Go to the appropriate section, such as AutoCAD Drawing, and select the + button.

  2. An empty template row will be added to the bottom of the list. Enter a recognisable name for the template in both boxes.

  3. Choose a stylesheet from the list and then select the Save button.

  4. Select which repositories this template applies to. If left empty, it will apply to all. Note: This field supports selecting multiple options.

  5. Select Upload Template to upload the template file to Lunr.

Each template row also carries a context menu, opened by selecting the three dots at the end of the row, offering Download, Edit, and Delete.

No delete confirmation

Deleting a template takes effect immediately, with no confirmation prompt, and Lunr does not check whether the template is still in use elsewhere before removing it.

AutoCAD CTB Files and Fonts

In the AutoCAD Drawing section, select the cog to view the list of CTB files and font files that have been uploaded to Lunr. These files are used when Lunr generates renditions to ensure accuracy.

Use the Upload buttons to add new files, and the rubbish bins to delete existing files.

The CTB stylesheets uploaded here are the ones offered when you set a repository's default rendition settings. See Renditions.

Access Rights and Repository Scoping

A document template with no assigned repositories is global and requires the Administration Pages access right. A template restricted to specific repositories only requires the Manage Repository Templates access right. By default this page lists only the templates available to the repository you are working in. When your organisation has multiple repositories enabled, select the Show templates from all repositories box to list every template in the organisation instead.

Duplicate template names are permitted; Lunr does not enforce unique names for document templates.

Holding only the Manage Repository Templates access right has two effects worth knowing before you delegate it. Submitting a Repositories selection on a template is silently overwritten to just your current repository, so only an Administration Pages holder can actually change which repositories a template is tied to. And deleting a template you are not authorised for reports success without deleting anything, so a blocked delete looks identical to a successful one.
